II Types for Rail Shelters

1 Rails V’s Welding on individual spigots:

There are two basic options when attaching the fabric structure to the container; To have your spigots for the frames welded directly onto the shipping container, or to have the spigots welded to a beam which is then locked to the container.

If the structure is likely to stay in the one place, or if when you are going to shift it, the same containers will go with the shelter; then we would recommend that you get the cheaper option of weld-on spigots.

To attach the spigots you mark out the containers, grind the paint off the mounting points and weld the spigots on. The spigots, one in from the end, are mounted on a 25mm plate to bring them to the same height as the corner post blocks. This is an extra weld, but makes sure that the two end frames are square, and the “V” bracing can be installed easily.

2 Bolt-on Rails – Twist-locks:

Bolt on rails remove the need to weld the brackets directly to the containers. They are the easiest and most cost effective option for removal and relocation. The install time is reduced considerably as is the time needed to take down the structure. A big saving in boilermaker services. If you are unable to weld on-site the centre support which is usually welded on can be a bolt-on fitting.

If it is likely you are to be shifting your structure we would strongly recommend bolt-on rails. They will pay for themselves within several moves. The rails lock into the container pin ports with twist-locks. The rails come ready to accommodate 2 x 20′ or 1 x 40′ containers with multiple slotted holes to take the twist-locks.

3 Weld-on Rails

Alternative shelter attachments are weld-on rails which are quicker than welding individual brackets. Mounting frame spigots are pre-welded to the top rail at correct spacing. If you do not plan to move the structures, weld-on rails are worth considering.

There are a number of support points that are welded to the container. This reduces the size of the steel beam and the cost of the rails. If you need to remove the rails in the future you will need to cut them off with oxy-acetylene cutting gear and will have to replace the intermediate mounting blocks before your reinstall the rails.
